TURLOCK — The Turlock city council is considering a consent letter with the California Department of Transportation for the Highway 99 Wildflower Beautification pilot project. The plan will be considered at its meeting Oct. 25.
Under the plan, seeds would be planted over the fall intended to bloom as the weather warms next spring. The effort is aimed at improving the appearance on the highway as travelers pass through Turlock. The new project would cost about $500.
Recent efforts to improve the stretch of highway near Turlock have included local adopt-a-highway groups that help clean and maintain the corridor and removing more than 1,000 pounds of trash from local on and off ramps.
“First impressions are important, even as people travel through Turlock on Highway 99,” said Mayor Gary Soiseth. “The City takes tremendous pride in the way our community is maintained and it is important that we make every effort to sustain a revered quality of life for our residents and to encourage continued economic growth.”
